Welcome to GEOG 172#

Hello and let me welcome you to GEOG 172: Intermediate Geographical Data Analysis! My name is Evgeny Noi and I will be your instructor for the following 10 weeks. Together we will discover what makes the SPATIAL data SPECIAL and why we require specialized methods of analysis to assess patterns found in geo-referenced information.

We will start by reviewing basic statistical concepts and extending them to spatial setting. Next, some important geographic concepts, such as distance, adjacency and contiguity will be defined. Finally, we will see how these can be used to help assess patterns in our data through spatial autocorrelation, clustering and point pattern analysis.
